Amazon October Prime Day
This year Amazon hosted another ‘Prime Day’-esque sales event in October called ‘Prime Big Deal Days’. The event is serving as a kick-start to the holiday shopping season encouraging consumers to get ahead of the crowds and score some great deals. Prime Day is a huge spending day for Prime customers, with this year's Prime Day in mid-July touting US$12.7 billion in sales.
Why does this matter?
As you know, The Difference is a round-up charity app focussed on harnessing the spare change from every digital spending transaction. Imagine the good we could do as a community if we rounded up and donated all that spare change to charities! Let’s say just 1% of that $12.7 billion in sales is donated to charity, that’s a whopping $127 million!
Amazon is a global business serving an estimated 310 million people worldwide. With orders continuously transported from factories to warehouses to consumers at all times of the day, there is a substantial impact on the environment. Every year, Amazon publishes its carbon emissions output in its annual sustainability report. In 2022, the company disclosed that its activities led to the release of the equivalent of 71.27 million metric tons of carbon dioxide - a figure that surged by 40% since 2019 when Amazon first began reporting on emissions data. Whilst the onus is on Amazon to find ways to lower emissions and take measures to ensure sustainability, increasing consumerism also plays a part in damaging environmental impact.
How can The Difference help?
We have partnered with numerous organisations such as Carbon Positive Australia (CPA) that plants native trees in Australia to improve biodiversity and reduce carbon emissions. By simply selecting CPA as your charity of choice in The Diffrence app you’re helping to lower carbon emissions with every purchase!
Ozharvest is another one of our key partner organisations. Ozharvest works to reduce food waste by saving it from landfill and donating it to those who need it most. Food waste has a huge impact on the environment with one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions annually being a result from food production and half of this being from food waste in landfills.
By downloading the app here and rounding up your purchases during Amazon’s Prime Big Day Deals event - you’re not only getting a great deal on your products but helping in the world simultaneously!
